“Old Red”, the first dune buggy prototype, is now on display at The Henry Ford!
In 1964, Bruce Meyers used his fiberglass boat building expertise to build his idea of the perfect beach vehicle: a shortened VW beetle chassis with an open fiberglass body, and became known as the “Meyers Manx.”
The Manx inspired an entire dune buggy phenomenon, and lives on today as Meyers Manx, launching the next generation of the brand with the Meyers Manx 2.0. Meyers Manx has even created a commemorative “Old Red” model, paying homage to the one that started it all!
In partnership with the Hagerty Drivers Foundation, the Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation features a rotating display of cars that have been inducted in the National Historic Vehicle Register. See “Old Red” on display through October 2025!
